Named as The Gymkhana Club, a Planter's Club was started in the year 1905, with a loan of Rs.2500/- from the erstwhile Kannan Devan Hills Produce Co. Ltd., for the gentlemen planters of the High Range in Kerala. It was located on the present Golf Course with a small pavilion built on the grounds. It was here the first coolie gymkhana for the workers of the Company was held. In the year 1909, the High Range Club was formally set up with furniture and fixtures, and was completed in 1910.
It was one of the first planter’s clubs to be electrified and one of the few clubs to be built as a residential club- Best among the Munnar Resorts. Telephones were installed at the Club in 1916. The Library was constructed near the present Nursery in 1916 but was demolished in 1925 after the floods that created havoc and changed the face of the hills and dales in the High Range. The present nursery and Ladies Room were made at the same site.

The first club to be affiliated to the High Range Club was the Trivandrum Club in 1915. In 1916, the first meet the Madhurai Meet was held. Lord Pentland, Governor of Madras visited the Club in 1916. Golf Course, grounds and Tennis Court were extensively damaged in the 1924 floods. But subsequently, they were all redone. Within an area of 6 acres and a river forming its natural boundary, the old world charm of the high range club continues.
A well maintained old heritage Club with all the comforts and style of the old world. There is an excellent library, two billiards tables, squash court, tennis courts and a very picturesque and challenging nine hole golf course. The High Range Club is over 100 years old and was started like most other great clubs in India by Britishers. Therefore it continues to have that old British elegance with excellent wooden furniture and sitting areas for a tourist to comfortably laze and relax. There is a beautiful golf course belonging to the club. it’s a beautiful place to take nice walks. In the background you will constantly have nature at its whistling best with the bird Malabar whistling thrush constantly making its whistling calls.
The Club is located almost at the centre of Munnar, unlike most popular resorts which are about 15 to 25 kms away. At the same time you will not hear the hustle and bustle and the spacious lawns, gardens and golf course help maintain the required serenity and privacy. Less than a KM away is the tourist centre for booking local tours and for taking a pleasant boat ride in the river. The river infact passes by the side of the club.
The club adheres to a strict dress code. Visitors should be properly dressed when using the club (Main lounge, Dining Room and Recreation Rooms). Collarless Tee Shirts, Lungies, Night Wears are not permitted in public areas inside main building. Proper sports gear should be worn by guest for usage of sports facility.
